David's focus on painting fruit still life began in 1993, during an independent studio course. A series of paintings made from a bowl of oranges in his studio coincided with the deterioration of his grandfather's health. David was drawn to the change in colours, textures and form in the fruit, which paralleled the changes that occur in the human body. From that point on, David has had a keen interest in the effects of time on objects, whether it be living objects or inanimate surfaces.
David is inspired by the materials of painting, and explores their qualities through his still life and landscape paintings.
